Starting from the left, the first tray has seven varieties of tomatoes, the next tray has squash, basil, peppers and eggplant. The last two trays contain a mix of perennials including coneflower, coreopsis, shasta daisy, milkweed and gloriosa daisy.

Some of the tomatoes will be shared with my neighbors, then we compare plants and see who can grow the best tomatoes. I normally grow my tomatoes in pots due to nematodes in the soil. This year I'm going to try planting some in the ground surrounded by marigolds, which are said to keep nematodes away. All the other vegtables will go in the ground. The basil will also get added to some of my flower beds. The perennial flowers wil be used in a new bed and some of the coreopsis and gloriosa daisy wil be alternated in a row along an existing bed as an edgeing.

Ice Plants grow year round, with individual shoot segments growing more than three feet (1 m) per year (D’Antonio 1990b). Ice Plants can grow to at least 165 feet (50 m) in diameter. Flowering occurs almost year round, beginning in February in southern California and continuing through fall in northern California, with flowers present for at least a few months in any given population. Seed production is high, with hundreds of seeds produced in each fruit. The fruit is edible. In South Africa the Sour Fig's ripe fruit are gathered and either eaten fresh or made into a very tart jam.

i really dont know what kind of plant this is - it seeded itself. i usually let most stuff grow freely, so this is the outcome. =)

edit: hmm, seems like nicandra physaloides! a plant of the nightshade genus with hallucinative alkaloids and steroidal lactones.
